How the fourth (and final) day unfolded
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Another fine innings from Matt Prior ends when he is out for 73. India desperately need to clean up the England tail rapidly to have any chance.
12.11: Wicket 540 for 9
So close to his maiden Test ton, the big-hitting Yorkshire all-rounder Tim Bresnan falls an agonising 10 runs shy as Praveen Kumar finds some extra lift.
12.31: Wicket 544 all out
Graeme Swann holes out to mid-off, and England are finally out for a mammoth 544. India need 478 to win – a nigh-on impossible task, even with Sachin Tendulkar.
12.41 Dropped first ball!
James Anderson bends the first ball at Abhinav Mukund, who is on a king pair ... and his snick is dropped by a diving Tim Bresnan at second slip.
13.50 Wicket 13 for 2
What a beauty! Anderson's ferocious delivery rips past V V S Laxman. Great start from the Burnley swinger. India's last hope, Tendulkar, emerges from the pavilion.
15.24: Wicket 55 for 6
M S Dhoni, lauded after Sunday's Bell gesture, is out for a golden duck as an on-fire Bresnan gets him lbw. Bresnan's figures now 4-12, and he's on a hat-trick.
16.26: Wicket 107 for 7
Anderson claims the scalp of Tendulkar – for the seventh time in Tests – with a peach of a delivery as the Little Master shoulders arms but is lbw for 56.
16.43: Wicket 129 for 8
Harbhajan hooks Bresnan high and it's a second catch for young substitute Scott Elstone, who had just dropped Kumar. Relief for Elstone, five-fer for Bres!
17.23 Wicket England win by 319 runs
India avoid their heaviest Test defeat in terms of runs – 342 – but that is their only consolation as Broad skittles Sreesanth to end it.
