From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Carl Hooper, the West Indies captain, will not have enjoyed his 100th Test as his side suffered a thrashing at the hands of India here over the weekend. The tourists now face an uphill task to avoid save the three-Test series after losing by an innings and 112 runs.

The architect of their downfall was the Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, who claimed 7 for 48 as the Windies were rolled over for just 188 in their second innings.

The tourists resumed on 91 for 1, a deficit of 209, but lost five wickets for 12 runs before lunch and the contest was as good as over. Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan were the first to go before Hooper was dismissed for just one run when he chipped a drive back to Harbhajan. He could then only watch as his side folded meekly. Shivnarine Chanderpaul was the only West Indian to offer any resistance, finishing on 36 not out to add to his first innings fifty.
