From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Rahul Dravid toasted another "special moment" in his career after guiding his side to a historic triumph over Pakistan in the first Test here yesterday.

The innings victory was the first Test match win for India on Pakistan soil and Dravid, captaining the team while Sourav Ganguly recovers from a back injury, was rightly revelling in the moment: "This has been great for us," he said. "These are special moments that I would cherish when I am old and grey, and we just hope to keep winning."

India declared on 675 for 5 in their first innings, due largely to Virender Sehwag's 309. The left-arm paceman Irfan Pathan then took four wickets as Pakistan were bowled out for 407 in their first innings on Wednesday, before Anil Kumble took 6 for 71 as the home side closed the fourth day on 207 for 9 in their second innings.

Pakistan were put out of their misery yesterday morning when Yousuf Youhana was caught by Dravid for 112 off Pathan after nine runs had been added to the score.

"The way the players have carried themselves on the field is fantastic," Dravid said.He was also quick to play down reports of a dressing-room argument when he ordered the declaration on day two. "There is no rift whatsoever," he said. "The whole issue was discussed and I think such matters really should remain within the dressing-room."

The second of three Tests starts in Lahore on 5 April.
