From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. A half-century by Kumar Sangakkara and an unbeaten 77 by Aravinda de Silva helped Sri Lanka to beat South Africa by six wickets in the last group match of the Morocco Cup one-day international tournament here yesterday. The match was effectively a preview of the tournament's final tomorrow.

Chasing 221 to win, Sri Lanka got off to a bright start with the openers Sanath Jayasuriya and Marvan Atapattu making 40 in the first six overs, before Atapattu was caught behind by Boeta Dippenaar off the bowling of Roger Telemachus for 15.

Jayasuriya went on to make 47 off 48 balls. Sangakkara and De Silva then shared a partnership of 96 off 111 balls before Sangakkara was run out, having made 57. De Silva saw Sri Lanka home for the loss of one more wicket with 7.5 overs to spare.

South Africa earlier made 220 for 6 in their 50 overs after winning the toss, Jacques Kallis top scoring with 84.
