Gayle's blazing batting display followed a devastating bowling performance to leave Pakistan dazed.
Oshane Thomas grabbed his first wickets at a World Cup, taking 4-27, while Andre Russell picked up an injury after bowling 2-4 in three overs.
With Pakistan posting 105 all out, the Windies' formidable batting line-up was not tested, and needed jut 13.4 overs to get over the line.
