From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Having seen Darren Pattinson clean up Trescothick with the opening delivery of the game, Hildreth went on to collect 18 boundaries in his 187- ball stay to ensure maximum batting bonus points for the home side at Taunton. Pattinson finished the day with 4 for 76 for Notts.
The former West Indies captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul saved third-placed Lancashire from total capitulation at the Rose Bowl, where they wilted to 262 for 8 against Hampshire. Chanderpaul occupied the crease for four-and-a-half hours for his 118 only to become the last victim of the day; caught at the wicket off the home captain Dominic Cork, who, against one of his former counties, finished as the pick of the home attack with 2 for 48.
At Lord's, former Surrey bowlers Tim Murtagh and Pedro Collins shared nine wickets, as the Middlesex pair skittled their old side out for 167 in the Second Division derby. Murtagh bagged 5 for 52 and Collins 4 for 68, with a modest Surrey top score of 44 from Mark Ramprakash, who was then bowled by Collins.
In reply, Middlesex reached 179 for 2 helped by a half-century from the former Surrey opener Scott Newman and with the unbeaten pair of Owais Shah and Dawid Malan looking to build on their stand of 67 this morning.
