From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Jamie Harrison marked his first appearance of the season by taking a career-best 5 for 31 as Durham gave themselves a chance to go second in the First Division by bowling Surrey out for 108 at Chester-le-Street to take a first-innings lead of 313. The 22-year-old left-arm seamer took four wickets on his debut last season and played four more games before suffering a stress fracture in his right shin.
His return came in a Durham side without Graham Onions and Callum Thorp – both injured – and Ben Stokes, with the England Lions.
Harrison mopped up Surrey's tail with three wickets yesterday and claimed another as Durham enforced the follow-on. Two wickets in consecutive balls from Bradford-born seamer Usman Arshad, making his first-class debut, saw Surrey slip to 33 for 3 and limp to 52 for 3 when drizzle ended play early.
Durham have one more day to complete a win that would see them leapfrog Sussex and Middlesex and move to within 25.5 points of leaders Yorkshire before their meeting at Scarborough next week.
Batsman of the day
Yorkshire's Gary Ballance enhanced his growing reputation by top-scoring with 87 as England Lions posted 319 for 7 from their 50 overs in the second of three one-day internationals at Taunton. It followed his 115 as the Lions won the first, at Bristol, by 202 runs, a match in which Sussex's Luke Wright hit 143 not out from 68 balls, with 10 sixes.
Extras
A complete last-day wash-out at Canterbury left Kent frustrated, even though Gloucestershire had more to gain from the deal struck on Friday to set up a run chase. Gloucestershire, with an outside chance of promotion, were set 399 to win but were 307 for 9 at the close on Friday, leaving Kent one wicket short of their second win of the season.
