Northamptonshire have signed the former Nottinghamshire batsman Bilal Shafayat on a game-by-game basis.

It marks a return to the county he left in 2007 for the 26-year-old, who had a run-in with Australia's Ricky Ponting who accused him of time-wasting in the exciting denouement to the 2009 Ashes Test in Cardiff.

Northants' injury problems have seen them win just once in T20 so far this season.
