LANCASHIRE recorded their first win at Old Trafford in almost a year while Derbyshire managed their first County Championship victory of the season yesterday.

The spinner Gary Yates produced a match-winning display to end Lancashire's victory drought in a 263-run defeat of Hampshire. Yates achieved a career-best 5 for 34 as Hampshire fell for 162.

Chris Adams led Derbyshire to victory against Glamorgan at Cardiff. Adams cracked a quick 58, reaching his half-century off just 53 deliveries, as Derbyshire ran to an eight-wicket victory. Glamorgan, resuming on 175 for 7, were bowled out for 196 and Derbyshire reached their victory target of 122 off 20 overs.

Yorkshire lost by 160 runs at Northamptonshire despite Michael Vaughan continuing his run of centuries, scoring his third in four first-class innings; a career-best 117. Yorkshire, chasing 485 for victory, slumped to 324.

Somerset's Neil Mallender, Adrian van Troost and Mushtaq Ahmed ran through Surrey to complete a 317-run victory at Bath.
