From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

ENGLAND UNDER-19s were in danger of losing the second match of their New Zealand tour after leaving a Central Districts Emerging Players XI to score 85 for victory in Palmerston North yesterday.

Beginning the second day on 137 for 7, the home side were finally all out for 218, a lead of 81 that looked as though it could prove decisive even before the England collapse that was to follow, as the tourists allowed themselves to be dismissed for 165 in their second innings. Central Districts finished the second day eight without loss.

Regan West starred for the home side with 70, while England's Mathew Whiley claimed 5 for 41. England drew their first match against an Auckland Emerging Players XI and are due to play three Tests and three one-day internationals. The first Test starts on Tuesday.
