Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The fast bowler could not prevent the Australians building up a 148-run first-innings lead before a spectacular hailstorm ended play at 5.20pm with the hosts on 515 for 9.
Shoaib, taken apart by the Australians on Saturday, got his own back by capturing the wickets of the captain, Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting, Damien Fleming and Adam Gilchrist with an unplayable yorker.
However, fluent centuries by Slater and Mark Waugh, with a cameo innings from Gilchrist and Greg Blewett's 89, put Australia in charge. No sooner had Mark Waugh completed his 17th Test century than he edged the next ball from Mushtaq Ahmed to Wasim Akram at slip. Waugh stroked 17 boundaries in his 148-ball hundred to back up Slater, whose 351-minute vigil ended when he pulled Azhar Mahmood to Yousuf Youhana at midwicket after hitting 25 fours and a six.
