From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Nick Knight eased the England selectors' worries with 81 against Hampshire at Southampton yesterday. His fellow Warwickshire opener, Andy Moles, almost batted throughout the day but was finally dismised for 164. They shared a partnership of 154 and then Moles and David Hemp (76no) put on 184 as the visitors reached 351 for 2 to secure their first batting bonus points of the season.

Glamorgan's openers enjoyed themselves against Durham. Steve James hit a century before lunch and finished with 153 and Hugh Morris scored 135, his 51st first-class hundred. Adrian Dale added 73 as Glamorgan ended the day on 433 for 3.

The Yorkshire opener, Michael Vaughan, stood firm with an unbeaten 92 as Yorkshire struggled to 158 for 5 in reply to Essex's 297 in which Darren Gough took 5 for 74.
