Cricket: How Gower and Boycott measure up
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Boycott opened the batting in all but one of his 108 Tests - he batted at No 4 against West Indies in Bridgetown in 1973-74, when he scored 10 and 13.
Gower has batted in every position from No 1 to No 7.
While Boycott was a Test player England played 172 Tests. He did not play in 61 of those Tests, including 30 during a self-imposed exile between 1974 and 1977.
Gower has missed 33 of the 148 England Tests played since his debut on 1st June 1978, including 16 of the 24 Gooch has captained since 1989.
Today, David Gower has the opportunity to become England's leading run scorer. He needs 33 runs to equal and 34 runs to beat Geoffrey Boycott's total of 8114 runs.
As soon as he faces a ball he will become the first Englishman to play 200 Test innings.
He is already the only England batsman to score more than 1000 runs against Pakistan. -----------------------------------------------------------------
