From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

THE FORMER Somerset player Roland Lefebvre put Kent on the rack in Amsterdam, but the Netherlands failed to produce another upset. The Dutchmen dismissed the county side for 229 in 48.5 overs, with the skipper Lefebvre taking 5 for 26, but Matthew Fleming's tally of 3 for 34 plus three run-outs helped eliminate the hosts for 167 in 47.5 overs to ease Kent to a 62-run victory.

Gloucestershire easily defeated last season's beaten finalists, Derbyshire, by eight wickets at Bristol after the visitors had slumped to 112 all out in 41.4 overs, the home captain, Mark Alleyne, wrapping up the innings by taking the last four wickets. He then watched as Tim Hancock (54) and Matt Windows (35 not out) earned victory in 32.1 overs.

A match-winning fourth-wicket stand of 141 between Michael Vaughan (85) and Anthony McGrath (84) rescued Yorkshire from a uneasy 14 for 3 as they recorded a four-wicket win over Leicestershire at Headingley.

Somerset cantered to an easy five-wicket victory against Sussex at Hove as Piran Holloway with 79 led the march on a modest target of 192.
