From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

ENGLAND A'S attempt to make up for lost time in the Test with their New Zealand counterparts here was thwarted again yesterday by the weather and some stubborn resistance from the hosts' batsmen.

After losing all of Sunday's play to rain, New Zealand A recovered from a poor start on the second day to close on 235 for 7 in deteriorating conditions.

Mark Alleyne's decision to field seemed justified when Paul Franks, James Kirtley and the captain himself claimed a wicket apiece to leave the hosts on 56 for 3. However, a fourth-wicket stand of 93 between Matthew Sinclair and Mark Richardson threatened to take the balance back to New Zealand.

Marcus Trescothick then took a sharp catch at gully to dismiss Sinclair (62). A 90-minute rain-break followed and when rain relented, dampness on the wicket had to be dried out with the help of a blow torch. Two balls after the resumption Chris Schofield had Scott Styris lbw with an excellent top-spinner.

Richardson (74) shortly became Kirtley's third victim and Schofield then dismissed Warren Wisneski but it was England's last success.
