Cricket: Carberry strives in lone struggle
England Under-19 XI 137 Central Districts Emerging Players XI 137-7
THE SURREY batsman Michael Carberry scored 82 as the England Under- 19 side struggled to 137 all out in their first innings against the Central Districts Emerging Players side in Palmerston North, Wellington, yesterday. The next highest score in the innings was 11 as the tourists began the three-day match, their second of the New Zealand tour. Central Districts fared marginally better and, at the close of play, had equalled the England score for the loss of seven wickets.
The best bowling performance of the day came from the Central Districts player David Blake, who took 5 for 52.
