English cricket will face the future with a single governing body after the National Cricket Association yesterday effectively voted for its own abolition. NCA members agreed unanimously to follow the lead of the Test and County Cricket Board by approving the establishment of an England and Wales Cricket Board. The ECB will come into being on 1 January after the NCA agreed with the decision taken last month by the TCCB at a special meeting at Lord's.

Warwickshire have made the first move to sign the England A batsman David Hemp after his decision to leave Glamorgan. They are expected to approve Warwickshire's formal request to talk to the 25-year-old left-hander when he becomes a free agent on 1 November.
