Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Commonwealth Games are taking place in Glasgow, running from Wednesday 23 July (which features the opening ceremony) through to Sunday 3 August. Here, we guide you through every day and pick out the events you won't want to miss.
Thursday 24 July
All eyes will be on the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome as Sir Bradley Wiggins returns to track action in the men's 4000m team pursuit. The multiple-time Olympic champion returns from his spell in road racing that saw him land the 2012 Tour de France, and he teams up with Olympic team pursuit champion in 2008 and 2012 Ed Clancy in the quest for his first Commonwealth gold.
The Brownlee brothers Alistair and Jonny go for gold in the triathlon at Strathclyde Country Park, and the former is tipped as the favourite after he finally overcame injuries that have blighted his performance over the past two years.
Hometown hero Michael Jamieson is targeting a new world record as well as gold if, as expected, he reaches the 200m breastsroke final. The 2012 silver medalist is billed as the poster boy of the Glasgow Games, but will face stiff competition from Australian Christian Sprengler.
