From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Highlights from the Champions League final, Ronaldo's 40th league goal, and a backfiring sportswear advert are among the world's most-watched sports videos for the week ending June 1.

YouTube viewers saw La Liga's top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo reach 40 league goals for the season. During the same match, the Real Madrid team formed a guard of honor for retiring goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek.

Though the video has now been removed, similar clips can be found by searching for " Real Madrid vs Almeria 8-1 Dudek."

Second on YouTube's chart is footage from an AC Milan training session. Teammates commiserate with star midfielder Andrea Pirlo on his imminent departure to Juventus.

American sportswear retailer Champs Sports takes a beating for its "Elements of Game: School" advert, with "dislikes" outweighing "likes" by nearly 4 to 1. "More like Elements of a Douche," wrote one user.

France's Dailymotion has highlights from the 2011 Champions League final occupying positions one to three.

On Chinese site Tudou there's the best and worst of Argentinean football: a season goals compilation for Barcelona's Lionel Messi, and two jaw-dropping errors from Argentina's domestic league.

Viewers of Japanese service Nicovideo saw limbless writer Takehiro Tadashi throwing the ceremonial first pitch for the Rakuten Eagles baseball team, while Yuto Nagatomo's goal for Juventus was also celebrated.
