Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

ROUND-UP

Bury are the new leaders of the Second Division after a 1-0 win at Notts County, despite having two men sent off.

Ronnie Jepson scored the only goal of the game at Meadow Lane to help his side go top and keep their distance from Brentford, who moved into second place after winning at Wrexham.

Two goals from their leading scorer Carl Asaba put an end to Brentford's run of three successive defeats, but his side failed to reclaim pole position as Bury, who travel to Griffin Park on Saturday, have conceded one goal less.

Bristol City bounced back from Joe Jordan's resignation on Monday to win 2-1 at Crewe. Rotherham, along with Notts County, now appear all but relegated after they lost 2-1 at home to Gillingham.

Portsmouth moved to the fringes of the First Division play-offs with a 1-0 win over Reading at Fratton Park, with Paul Hall's 84th-minute winner lifting them to eighth place. In the Third Division, Doncaster enjoyed a 3-0 win over Rochdale.

Carlisle will be going to Wembley on 20 April to meet Colchester in the Auto-Windscreens Shield final after their Northern Area final second leg finished goalless at Stockport. They won the first leg 2-0.
