Britain's Colin McRae dominated the opening 10 stages of his first Thailand Rally, finishing the first day 46 seconds clear of Subaru team- mate, Kenneth Eriksson, in first place. The world champion was in a confident mood after setting six fastest stage times during the first leg of this opening round of the Asia-Pacific Championship.

THAILAND RALLY (Asia-Pacific Championship, first leg) Leading positions (after 10 stages): 1 C McRae (GB) Subaru 1min 4.05sec; 2 K Eriksson (Swe) Subaru 1:04.51; 3 P Liatti (It) Subaru 1:05.12; 4 T Makinen (Fin) Misubishi 1:05.49.
