Gary Harris, who caddied for the British boys champion, David Howell, at the Benson and Hedges International last week, wielded the clubs to good effect himself yesterday, taking the second-round lead in the English amateur strokeplay championship at Little Aston. He benefited greatly from his experience at St Mellion. 'David played with Jose Maria Olazabal in the pro-am and then made the halfway cut, so I was there all week learning as much as I could,' said Harris after a 70 had given him a two-under-par total of 142. In the blustery conditions Simon Griffiths, the overnight leader after an opening 67, returned an 80.
