Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Teichmann's Springbok call-up
The Natal captain Gary Teichmann is the only new cap in the South African side to play Wales at Ellis Park, Cape Town, on 2 September. Teichmann, who toured Argentina in 1993 and Scotland and Wales last year without making the Test side, takes over the No 8 shirt from his provincial team- mate Mark Andrews, who reverts to lock in place of the injured Hannes Strydom. The only other change to the team who beat New Zealand in the World Cup final is the return of hooker James Dalton in place of Chris Rossouw. Dalton was banned from the remainder of the World Cup after he was involved in a mass brawl against Canada during a pool match.
Squad: A Joubert; J Small, J Mulder, H le Roux, C Williams; J Stransky, J van der Westhuizen; G Teichmann, R Kruger, F Pienaar (capt), M Andrews, K Wiese, B Swart, J Dalton, O du Randt.
