Kate Adams, the defending champion, slumped to a surprising quarter-final defeat in the women's world indoor championships in Cumbernauld. Adams, from Ayrshire, reached the last eight with three straight-sets wins and needed just 10 ends to take the first two sets 7-1 7-0 before the Scottish champion, Jan Woodley, recovered to snatch the third set 7-6.
