From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

After Fury dismantled Deontay Wilder to capture the WBC world heavyweight title, every major belt is now in the UK with Joshua holding the IBF, WBO and WBA straps.
A meeting between the two Britons is complicated by Wilder’s option for a rematch, but Warren believes should both fighters avoid defeat then a fight to crown an undisputed champion would be straight forward.
“It’s not a difficult fight to make. Whatever is on the table is 50-50,” Warren told Sky Sports.
“Fury is the No 1 heavyweight but we don’t say 60-40. 50-50 down the middle.
“Once we get the offer that we’re supposed to be getting, we’ll be in a position to sit around the table and knock it into shape. It’s not about me or Matchroom. It’s about getting this fight made.
“If we can’t make this happen between us, then we’ve got to point the finger at whoever doesn’t make it happen.”
Joshua meanwhile faces a mandatory title defence against Kubrat Pulev, which was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
But Fury’s US-based promoter and Top Rank chief Bob Arum has already committed to pursuing the Joshua fight in 2021 should both fighters emerge victorious in their next bouts.
Arum even predicted should it come to it then he would strike a deal with Matchroom in “one day”.
While Warren concurred with rival promoter Eddie Hearn when he revealed Joshua would be eager to sign a “two-fight deal” for 2021.
“There will have to be a rematch,” Warren admitted. “But that’s not an obstacle. There are no obstacles to stopping this fight happening.
“Our door is open. We’ve all signed a non-disclosure agreement. We’re waiting for an offer. At our end, it is not a problem.”
