Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez dispatches Avni Yildrim inside three rounds to defend world titles
Alvarez is a four-division world champion and now boasts a 55-1-2 record
Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez took just three rounds to successfully defend his WBC and WBA super-middleweight titles against Turkish challenger Avni Yildirim in Florida.
The Mexican staged a dominant performance at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens and secured victory moments before the fourth after his opponent retired.
Alvarez had a strong start as he hit Yildirim with a big left hook then spent the remainder of the first round working the Turk’s body.
Yildirim copped more shots in the second as Canelo continued the punishment, with the challenger knocked down by a straight right in the third.
Yildirim got up but his corner waved the fight off moments later before the next round began, marking the third loss in the Turk’s 24-fight career.
Alvarez is a four-division world champion and now boasts a 55-1-2 record.
