The highly rated 20-year-old is in the closing stages of his camp preparations for this month’s showdown against Zaur Abdullaev, with the pair to meet in a WBC lightweight title eliminator.
The winner of the 13 September bout will become mandatory to Vasyl Lomachenko after the Ukrainian beat Luke Campbell to collect his third of four titles in the division.
With Lomachenko looking to collect the IBF title early next year in a super fight against the winner of Richard Commey vs Teofimo Lopez, Haney could be made to wait for the opportunity to challenge the Ukrainian.
The Independent has learned that Haney is therefore “very interested” in featuring on the undercard of KSI vs Paul, which will be the feature bout on DAZN in America and around the world at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles – but will only do so if he beats Abdullaev and remains injury free.
Haney’s appearance would see him exposed to a potentially new and large audience, which is the key factor in his desire to feature on the card.
Although a UK broadcaster has yet to be announced for the 9 November fight, it’s believed Sky Sports are a leading contender.
WBO super middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders could also feature on the card, with a ‘welcome to Matchroom’ bout likely before he looks to unify the division against the likes of Callum Smith, Anthony Dirrell and Caleb Plant in early 2020.
