From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Gib forced his way into getting the fight months ago when an online campaign from his followers saw him beat out competition in a poll alongside the likes of Soulja Boy and Dillon Danis to secure his dream fight.
It wasn’t a dream night in the end for the Londoner, who Paul made light work of in their first professional contests.
Gib fought from a squared-on, low stance with bad footing and and put on a clear show of the difference between pantomime and professional as Paul’s size and power helped him to dominate, landing his jab at will and never really needing to unload any big shots to cause damage.
Paul secured an early flash knockdown with a right to the top of Gib’s forehead before another knockdown shortly after.
With the three knockdown rule in effect, referee Chris Paul stepped in as Gib continued and struggled to take Paul’s onslaught, waving the fight off.
“I dedicated the past five months to this,” said Paul immediately after.
“It was all just natrual instinct in there, I was too strong and too fast.
“KSI is next!”
It will indeed be KSI next, who was sat ringside watching on in disbelief before coming into the ring post-fight, with the younger of the Paul brothers looking to avenge his brother’s November defeat.
For Gib, it's back to YouTube and opening Fifa packs.
