From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The professional boxer is desperate to be on the undercard of KSI vs Logan Paul on 9 November but DAZN currently have no plans to put him on the show, although they are in discussions about whether he should headline his own event a month or two later.
Paul, however, would prefer to be the chief support to his brother as he was last year when he beat Deji (ComedyShortsGamer) last year.
Speaking on his YouTube channel to his 19.6 million subscribers, Paul created a survey where fans can vote on who he should fight.
“In the next seven days, we will have an answer,” Paul said.
“The first is fouseyTUBE, he is the most famous out of everyone, he knocked out Alex Wassabi in sparring. He has power, heart. It could be very interesting. Then there’s AnEsonGib, he’s 2-0 and fought on both [previous Youtube boxing shows] undercards against chickens. He has a strong UK fanbase.
“Next is FaZe Sensei, I didn’t call him out but he thinks I did. It would be a really good fight, there would be a lot of talk. He doesn’t scare me at all.
“Dillon Danis. Conor McGregor’s best friend... and that’s it. His next credential is that he got punched in the face by Khabib. He needs something to spark his career. He is an MMA fighter but this is boxing.
“Soulja Boy, I’ve been wanting to make this fight for a while. I think this will be the most epic, most notorious, most widely viewed.
“I just want to throw this name in there: Jeff Wittek. We don’t really get along, don’t mesh. I think you need something to lift you up from David [Dobrik’s] shadow.”
Should Paul fight on either his own card or on the show which features his brother, his opponent will be required to turn professional.
