Herring Frampton Carl Frampton battles Jamel Herring for the WBO super-featherweight title with the Irishman battling to create history and snag a world title in a third weight class.

The American is one of the most highly-rated fighters at 130 pounds and will hold physical advantages over Frampton with greater height and reach, but Frampton maintains his “distance control, timing and speed of hand and foot” will make up for that to give him the edge here.

While the fighter who has handled the inconvenience of this fight being delayed will also hold an edge. Both fighters were due to meet last summer only for Covid-19 to postpone the event, but Frampton believes destiny awaits, having captured super-bantamweight and featherweight world titles in a glittering career.

This fight means everything to Frampton, who has vowed to retire if it does not go his way, admitting he is “not prepared to go round the houses and get myself into a position to fight for another world title.”

In a tremendous fight that is both seen as a 50-50 by the bookies, as well as the industry, with Ricky Hatton leaning towards Frampton but admitting it is “50-50” and that when he saw the pair standing close to one another he thought Herring was “two weights above Carl”. Here is everything you need to know about the fight:

Frampton on Herring fight

“This fight means the world to me,” Frampton told Ring.TV. “It means the world to the people I have around me; my current team, it means so much to my family and to people that played any sort of a part in my career from when I started boxing at seven years old. This would be the cherry on top. I never dreamed that I would have the chance to become a three-weight world champion. I probably never dreamed that I had the ability to be a three-weight world champion at the very start. Now, to be one fight away from it, feeling as confident as I do, things have fallen into place and it’s gonna happen.”

Herring on Frampton fight

American Herring said: “We aren’t looking at weaknesses. We are prepared for the best version of Frampton because we know what’s on the line for him. We don’t look for poor performances. We look to take his strengths away from him as the fight progresses.

“I am a fan of Carl. I respect what he has done in his career. Two divisional world champion and fighter of the year in 2016. He is a father, a husband, and we share that common mutual respect.

“We just want to do our jobs and get home to our families.

“Maybe I will get to Belfast some time for that pint. But for now, it is just business and getting that win.”
