From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The pair will take questions from journalists at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on 11 July, next Tuesday, with the event being the first in a multi-city press tour.
Tickets for this first press conference at the 20,000-capacity arena are free and will be available to members of the public from 8.00pm BST on Friday.
Details of further media events are yet to be confirmed, though it is expected that the pair will also make at least one appearance on the other side of the Atlantic before meeting in the ring.
A statement on the Staples Center's official website said: “This will be a star-studded event that will feature a live performance and special guests. We invite all fans to come out and be a part of history and ticket is required to enter.”
Regarded by many as the finest boxer of his generation, Mayweather is duly considered the overwhelming favourite for the Las Vegas fight.
UFC lightweight champion McGregor, meanwhile, will be making his professional boxing debut when he enters the ring on 26 August.
Earlier this week, UFC president Dana White admitted that a McGregor victory would be the biggest upset in sporting history.
“If Conor McGregor knocks out Floyd Mayweather, tell me something bigger,“ he told mixed martial arts website MMAJunkie. “He’ll be the biggest athlete on the f****** planet. It’ll be absolute madness.”
