Canelo Alvarez has described Ryan Garcia as the ‘best prospect’ in world boxing, after the up and coming star extended his unbeaten record to 18-0 on Saturday night.

Garcia secured a second round knockout of Jose Lopez as he looks to move up the boxing ranks and attempt to fight for a world title before the end of the year, with Canelo in attendance at the Fantasy Spring Resort Casino in California.

Both Canelo and Garcia are under Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions and the current unified middleweight champion of the world was more than impressed with what he saw while sat ringside.

The Mexican is currently preparing for his unification bout against Danny Jacobs on Cinco de Mayo weekend but took time to support Garcia.

Speaking after watching the 20-year-old’s impressive victory, Canelo admitted he believes his stable-mate is the best prospect in the game.

“He’s learning a lot and I’m very impressed because he’s the kind of fighter who, he does what he does in the gym, in the ring, and he did that tonight,” said Canelo.

“I think he’s the best prospect today.”

Garcia is not just a star in the ring – the unbeaten American has a large Instagram following as well as a YouTube channel with hundreds of thousands of subscribers, making him a star both in and out of the ring.

With a world title shot being demanded by his legion of fans, promoter De La Hoya admitted the prospect will happen ‘sooner rather than later’.

Ryan Garcia thanks fans after win over Jose Lopez
