Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Saturday 8pm, Sky Sports 1
This Saturday should have treated fight fans to one of the greatest boxing nights of the year, but after the postponement of both Tyson Fury vs Wladimir Klitschko and Kell Brook vs Diego Chaves we are left with mere crumbs to feast upon.
The Sheffield Arena shall host the remnants of the Kell Brook bill, which is now headlined by Chris Eubank Jr against 39-year-old American Tony Jeter.
Eubank looked outstanding in his last bout against Dmitry Chudinov, but has severely regressed in opposition for his Matchroom debut where he fights a man who has lost three of his four career defeats by KO.
As an undercard bout this would just about be acceptable, but this could be the weakest Sky Sports main event in recent history.
This will be Eubank’s first fight under the tutelage of new coach Adam Booth, and it will be interesting to observe whether the 26-year-old maintains the often languid style he has used throughout his career thus far.
Expect an early victory for Eubank whose last 11 wins have all come via stoppage, while Jeter has finished three of his last four opponents.
The odds reflect the absurdity of this match, with Eubank an overwhelming 1/100 favourite while Jeter is a 20/1 underdog.
Gavin McDonnell defends his European super bantamweight title as chief support on the undercard against Jeremy Parodi.
McDonnell is carving out a reputation as one of Britain’s most resilient fighters, and his recent form has been good with victories over Vusi Malinga, Leigh Wood and Josh Wale signifying his dogged ability.
Parodi is best known for being stopped by Carl Frampton in October 2013, and though the Frenchman has a pretty 37-2-1 record, he has rarely fought tough, let alone difficult opposition.
Both men lack power which makes the 4/11 odds for the fight to go the distance tempting to chuck into an accumulator, and McDonnell is the wide ¼ favourite to ultimately win the bout.
Leigh Wood and Josh Wale, both former Gavin McDonnell victims, should combine to create the most entertaining fight of the night as they battle in a British featherweight title eliminator.
Terrence Crawford vs Dierry Jean
Saturday night 1am, BoxNation
Omaha, Nebraska hosts world championship boxing on Saturday night, where local hero Terence Crawford defends his WBO light welterweight title for the first time against hard-hitting Dierry Jean.
26-0 across a seven year career, Crawford is a two-weight world champion who is being tipped as the man to replace Floyd Mayweather as the best American boxer on the planet.
The 28-year-old is an outstanding athlete who is close to the complete packing in the ring, as he offers tremendous movement, solid power, an excellent chin and a wide range of punches which always keeps his opponents guessing.
Following an outstanding 2014 where he was named the Fighter of the Year following wins over Ricky Burns, Yuriorkis Gamboa and Raymundo Beltran, Crawford moved up to light welterweight last April and stopped Thomas Dulorme to claim his second world title.
Jean will offer a difficult first challenge for the champion however, as the Haitian-turned-Canadian is a powerful puncher who uses constant pressure to unsettle and unravel his opponents.
The 33-year-old lost to Lamont Peterson in January 2014, but has stopped six of his last eight rivals and will arrive in Nebraska full of confidence and presumably listening to the great Bruce Springsteen album of the same name.
Expect an excellent bout between two strong and engaging boxers, where the superior footwork and versatility of Crawford should be the difference maker.
The Champion is 1/12 to win, while some may be tempted to put a few quid on the outsider Jean at 10/1
