Your support makes all the difference.Scotland is guaranteed a new British champion next month when Wilson Docherty meets Michael Deveney for the vacant British featherweight title, but for Docherty there is also family pride at stake.
The all-Scottish bout at St Andrews Sporting Club, Glasgow, on 23 January will give Docherty the chance to emulate his elder brother Drew, who recently won a Lonsdale belt outright with his third British bantamweight title success.
"There has only ever been one set of brothers who held British titles at the same time so it would be a great achievement if I could emulate Drew," said 26-year-old Docherty, who currently holds the World Boxing Organisation belt.
"It would be a great thing for my mum and dad to have two Lonsdale belts in the house. Everyone is very proud of Drew.
"I beat Michael Deveney in the 1989 Scottish amateur finals but I know that this will be a very different fight."
Deveney, who has lost eight of his 25 fights, said: "I know this is a big step up in class for me but I am on a high just now."
