From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Before the Spaniard's announcement, Newcastle were 5-1 to win the Championship. Now they are 7-4 with BetVictor for the title and 4-7 to make an immediate return to the Premier League.
Newcastle also feature prominently in the Championship top scorer betting, with new signing Dwight Gayle priced at 8-1 and team-mate Aleksandar Mitrovic next best at 10s.
Aston Villa and Norwich were the two other relegated sides from the Premier League and they are expected to be Newcastle's closest challengers for outright honours at 8-1.
BetVictor are producing enhanced ante-post specials in the run-up to the new season and they offer 10-1 on Newcastle winning the Championship and Manchester City being crowned Premier League champions.
In League One, Sheffield United are favourites at 4-1 to be crowned champions and their striker Billy Sharp has been price-boosted to 9-1 to be the division’s top marksman. There should be a strong London challenge, with Charlton (8s) and Millwall (10s) among the front-runners for glory.
Portsmouth, at 4-1, are BetVictor’s market leaders in League Two while four other sides – Doncaster, Luton, Leyton Orient and Plymouth - are 10-1 or less.
