Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.THE ENGLAND coach, Laszlo Nemeth, has reaffirmed his belief that this weekend's friendly tournament in Hungary could serve as a launch pad for the national team to catch up with Europe's elite sides.
England, who just failed to qualify for this summer's European Championships in France, face the Netherlands today and then play either Hungary or the Czech Republic tomorrow.
The journey to Hungary is the second phase of the summer programme, with England having already played three games in Ireland. They are also due to travel to Poland next month.
"The Ireland trip convinced me we can get to a higher level," Nemeth said. "Hopefully this week will reinforce that."
Teamsystem Bologna's Andy Betts, the second-round draft pick of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets, and the Verona guard Steve Hansell have solidified their positions in the national team set-up. But one player who really boosted his credentials with Nemeth was Derby Storm's Yorick Williams.
"He was not afraid of anyone in Ireland," Nemeth said. "Hopefully he will show it again."
