BASKETBALL : Title race still open
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The champagne goes back on ice. Sheffield Sharks, Thames Valley Tigers and London Towers must wait until this week's final round of games in the Budweiser League to learn who becomes champions.
Sheffield, who have led the League since early November, lost the chance to claim the championship this weekend with Saturday night's 96-82 defeat against Manchester Giants.
The Sharks' 93-75 victory against Thames Valley last night still left the title race open, at least until Sheffield and the Tigers meet again on Wednesday, at Bracknell. Sheffield could yet need to win their final game, against Doncaster Panthers next Sunday, to be sure of the championship.
Tigers' challenge hung in the balance as they trailed Chester Jets 89- 88 with three minutes to go. But Peter Scantlebury inspired a 10-0 burst which turned the game for Thames Valley.
London are certain to maintain the pressure tonight with victory over Sunderland Scorpions.
