LEAGUE TROPHY holders Sheffield Sharks secured their place in the quarter-finals last night with an 85-83 victory over Manchester Giants, after a late surge orchestrated by Travis Conlan settled this season's first meeting between the Budweiser League's top two clubs.

Twenty four hours earlier, Giants needed two periods of overtime to defeat Thames Valley Tigers 121-118 in another Group A game, which featured the season's highest individual score of 54 points from Manchester's John White.

Other Group A action saw Derby Storm move closer to the quarter-finals with an 81-77 win over Milton Keynes Lions. In the League, Edinburgh Rocks produced their best win of the season by defeating Thames Valley 94-84. Newcastle Eagles recovered to beat Worthing Bears 96-89 in overtime.
