Australia go to Waugh for command

Mark Taylor, the Australian captain, is expected to sit out the second one-day international against South Africa at St George's Park, Port Elizabeth today.

Taylor will miss the game if Mark Waugh fully recovers from a back strain that forced him out of the first game in East London, where South Africa won by six wickets. "Everything will depend on how fit Mark [Waugh] is," Taylor said. But Errol Alcott, the team physiotherapist, confirmed it was nothing serious and the right-handed batsman should recover in time for the game.

In Taylor's absence, and with Ian Healy, the vice-captain, serving a two-match suspension, Waugh's older brother, Steve, is expected to lead Australia for the first time in an international.
