From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Kelly Holmes' mysterious injury was revealed last night as symptoms in her lower left leg were diagnosed as a stress fracture.

Holmes won a 1500 metres silver medal and 800 metres bronze medal at last year's World Championships in Gothenburg and is one of Britain's strong medal hopes in Atlanta. The 26-year-old is still hopeful of taking part in the Games when the 800m heats start at the end of the week.

A spokesman at the British Olympic training camp in Tallahassee said: "Treatment for her injury has been underway and the response so far is encouraging. When she arrived she had already developed what appeared to be a bruise over the two or three days prior to leaving home.

"There is obviously some concern regarding the advisability of competing as there is a possibility of the injury progressing through the rounds of the competition. But Kelly is very positive and determined to run."
