From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Chelsy Davy and Cressida Bonas both dated Prince Harry, now the Duke of Sussex, years before the young royal had even met Meghan Markle, who is now the Duchess of Sussex.
While their attendance might’ve raised eyebrows, with Davy becoming the subject of a slew of viral memes poking fun at her po-faced expression, the fact that they were invited is actually a sign of maturity and intelligence, according to dating experts.
“Inviting exes to your wedding doesn’t have to be a bad thing,” explains dating psychologist Madeleine Mason.
“Good past relationships often have a deep friendship and simply because there has been a history of intimacy does not mean that the friendship should suffer,” she told The Independent.
“If anything, the romance is dead and so as the new partner can be more assured that there is nothing to worry about.”
Both Davy and Bonas enjoyed long-term relationships with the then Prince, with the former dating him sporadically for a period of seven years.
After meeting in Cape Town when the Prince was on his gap year, the duo finally split in 2011 after claims that Davy struggled with the pressures of dating a royal.
However, the two have remained firm friends and Davy was also in attendance at the royal wedding between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, despite no longer being with Harry at the time.
Bonas and the young royal dated from 2012 to 2014, after being introduced by Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie.
“Harry having his exes there was actually quite a clever move,” dating coach James Preece told The Independent.
“Firstly, they act as ‘endorsements’ for him and proof that he has dated quality, attractive women. This makes him more of a catch to anyone with him.
“Secondly, it shows that he was able to leave relationships without too much heartbreak. This demonstrates maturity and the very fact they wanted to attend is a great sign of what a good friend he is to them.”
