Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

A GYMNASIUM covering 800 square feet is to be installed in the basement of The Alpha Building, in Santley Street, London SW4, for the use of residents who buy apartments in the grade II listed, converted Victorian school. Loft-style apartments will be ready later this summer, with prices starting at pounds 80,000 for a studio up to pounds 260,000 for larger flats. In the grounds, the former kitchen block is being converted into five "upside-down" houses, so reception rooms will have vaulted ceilings. For details, call Knight Frank on 0171-730 9839.

PUMP IRON while admiring the view from the gym in Woodground, a large family house near Exeter. Standing in more than an acre of grounds bordered by a stream, with a tennis court and paddock, the house has five en-suite bedrooms, all wired for TV, plus a two-bedroom annexe with sitting room, bathroom and kitchen. The main house has a drawing room, breakfast/kitchen and conservatory. All for pounds 325,000, details from Fulfords on 01392 660007.

THIS GLASS-FRONTED house is one of a pair backing on to each other in chic Barnsbury, in north London. Approached via a gated arch to a landscaped terrace and timber-decked walkway, it comes with an outside room under the main terrace that the agents say would make a perfect gym, subject to consents. The three-storey, three-bedroom house has beech flooring throughout, a 36ft reception room with glass blocks in the ceiling, Phillipe Starck fittings and natural limestone bathroom floors. The main bedroom has a glass facade wall, etched for privacy. The guide price is pounds 695,000. Call Holden Matthews on 0171-226 1313.
