Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Held January 27-30, the 13th annual Interior Design Show (IDS) in Toronto, Canada brings together companies and designers from Canada and around the world to showcase the latest styles in interior design.

The show will hold an opening night party on Thursday, January 27 before opening to design industry professionals on Friday, January 28 and members of the public on Saturday the 29 and Sunday the 30.

This year's event features keynote speeches from international designers including Paris-based Jean-Marie Massaud - Elle Deco Designer of the Year 2005 and Best Eco Design 2005 at Design Tide in Tokyo - plus exhibitions from over 300 Canadian and international designers and a special showcase of a 91 square meter (980 ft2) kitchen designed by Swedish furniture giant (and one of IDS's sponsors) IKEA.

The event can be followed online via Facebook ( www.facebook.com/idstoronto) and Twitter (@IDS_Toronto); highlights of the event and interviews with the designers involved will  be available to watch on YouTube ( www.youtube.com/user/InteriorDesignShow).

Since the first Interior Design Show 13 years ago, the event has attracted around 550,000 visitors and 4,000 unique designers. However, despite these numbers and a strong presence in Canada, the show lacks the wide international appeal of the bi-annual Maison & Objet in Paris (January 21-25 / September 9-13) which attracted 85,000 visitors in 2010, or of IFA in Germany (September 2-7) which attracted 235,000 visitors in 2010.
