AMID the bad news, ready cash appears to be no problem for some potential buyers. Edward Waterson of the agents Carter Jonas complains he cannot find a suitable country house in North Yorkshire for one client with up to pounds 1m to spend. 'Believe it or not, there seems to be a gap in the market,' he says. At the other end of the country almost half the people on Hill & Morrison's waiting list are cash buyers, and five-bed Hampshire homes on a couple of acres are rare.
