IAN WRIGHT took a full part in an England training session yesterday and has been passed fit for the World Cup qualifying match against the Netherlands in Rotterdam on Wednesday.

The return to fitness of the Arsenal striker provided a great boost for the England manager, Graham Taylor, who is still anxiously waiting to discover if the captain, Stuart Pearce, has fully recovered from a thigh injury.

In golf, the Irishman Darren Clarke won his first European PGA Tour event in the Belgian Open at Knokke-le-Zoute. Clarke shot a final-round 68 to win by two shots from Nick Faldo and Vijay Singh.
