The Argentine Foreign Minister, Guido di Tella, protested to Britain yesterday for giving the green light to oil exploration within the Falkland Islands continental shelf, and said 'we have reached a point of disagreement', writes Elizabeth Nash.
'We will pursue legally anyone who extracts oil in the area. We will not allow exploration or exloitation,' Mr di Tella said in London. 'To allow seismic studies to go ahead without a clear knowledge of what happens afterwards . . . is an unnecessary exercise.' He had written letters of protest to the Government and to oil companies.
