CHREY THOM, Cambodia - Vietnamese refugees trapped on the Vietnamese-Cambodian border are checked by a UN soldier before receiving food rations. The Vietnamese, who fled Cambodia after attacks by the Khmer Rouge, wish to return but the Cambodian government will not allow them to. They wait in no man's land between the two countries, with no form of support.

Cambodian government forces appear to have won control of two Khmer Rouge base areas and say they have disarmed hundreds of guerrillas. It is the first big offensive by Phnom Penh's new unified army against the Khmer Rouge, which has attacked bridges, trains and ethnic Vietnamese since being denied a role in government.
