Colombo - Tamil Tiger rebels ambushed an army patrol in Sri Lanka's eastern Batticaloa district, killing 27 soldiers and wounding five, a military spokesman said. Troops who survived the attack by a "large group" of rebels fought back, killing an estimated 20 rebels. Reuter
