Los Angeles - Detention hearings were scheduled yesterday for a six-year-old San Francisco boy charged with attempting to murder a four- week-old baby, writes Tim Cornwell.

He may be the youngest person charged in the US as a would-be killer. Police say he led two eight-year-olds in beating the infant when the three entered the baby's apartment to steal a tricycle. Ignacio Bermudez is in a critical condition, with multiple skull fractures.
