Rome - Six Italians, including two children, were shot dead yesterday by a band of robbers in the Virunga Park wildlife reserve in eastern Zaire. The adults, volunteers for an Italian aid organisation, were in Zaire helping to build water supply and electric power facilities for Rwandan refugees, said a spokesman for the aid group Mondo Giusto (A Just World).

The reserve, famous as the home of many of the endangered mountain gorillas, runs along the border with Uganda and Rwanda. The victims were identified as Adelio Castiglioni; his children, Roberta, 11, and Samuele, 5; Michelangelo Lamberti; Tarcisio Riva, and Luigi Cazzaniga, all from northern Italy. Castiglioni's wife, Novella, was reported wounded. AP
